Very nice site, thanks for the effort. I am descended from PORTER/STEPHENS/ELLSWORTH who lived in Seward county in the late 19th and early 20th century. Manly PORTER lived in Beaver Crossing, John Alva STEPHENS near Goehner. I have some photos I can copy and send to you of the STEPHENS homestead, including some early 20th century shots of school classrooms. I'd very much love to learn anything you have about the STEPHENS/PORTER/ELLSWORTH families.

Two of my ancestors immigrated in 1905 to Seward County, NE. My gr uncle GUSTAV SCHOLZ died already in 1913 as a victim of the TORNADO in 1913; together with him died his eldest daughter Erna Louise ( 3 years). His wife survived with two other children : GUS SCHOLZ ( later resident of FALLS CITY, Richardson County,NE, + 1994) and ELEANOR SCHOLZ ( married HOFFSCHNEIDER); she lived at Waco, York County and spent her last years at Paxton, IL, where she died in June 2004 at the age of 91; she is buried in Waco. My other ancestor in Seward was my gr aunt PAULINE SCHOLZ ( married TINGELHOFF); I don't know about her first years in Seward. Maybe she worked as servant in the house of a Trute family before she lived in Lincoln, Lancaster County and after 1935 at Tacoma, Pierce County ,WA, where she died in 1967. She is buried at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, together with husband Frank Tingelhoff.Un unsolved mystery is a photo of about 1910, which shows her together with a little girl, who might be her daughter ( my family owns a photo) - but nothing is known about that child. I put the photo at >Ancient Faces< and at >Dead Fred< in january 2004, but until now, nobody reacted or recognized her. My gr gr uncle Friedrich Wilhelm HAINKE came to Seward County about 1885 ; he was a lutheran pastor at I Precinct and later moved to several places at Kansas ( he died in 1925 and is buried near Kensington,KS). From Munich greetings to Seward! Angelika Tanterl
