Gone
Another hand is beckoning us
Another call is given;
And glows once more with angel steps
The path which reaches heaven.
Alone unto our Father's will
One thought hath reconciled;
That He whose love exceedeth ours
Hath taken home His child.
Hold him, oh Father! in thine arm,
And let him henceforth be
A messenger of love between
Our human hearts and Thee.
And grant that he who, trembling here
Distrusted all his powers,
May welcome to his holier home
The well beloved of ours.—Whitten.
Card of Thanks
We wish to thank the many friends who so kindly helped us at the death of our beloved husband and father.

When Jacob Imig, Sr., married Anna Graff in 1893, no one realized an entirely new era of the Imig family was being nurtured. This marriage was blessed with three sons and one daughter.
The sons were twins Edwin and Erwin, born in 1900, Jacob, Jr., born in 1907, and daughter Vera, born in 1902 and who, at the age of 21, would marry Ted Hughes, one of the famed Hughes brothers. (Ted got more enjoyment playing an organ or piano with his popular orchestra than reading blueprints in his office at the plant.)
Erwin left this earth in 1980, Edwin in 1984 and Vera in 1985. On April 19 of this year we received a phone call saying our classmate Jakie Imig had died of cancer. By record, he was actually Jacob Imig, Jr., but to his schoolmates he was and always will be Jakie.
Jakie was a better than average student and a fun-loving boy. Everyone loved him, both boys and girls. He had a droll sense of humor and a smile for everyone.
He took a course in public accounting and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1928 where he was student manager for the Big Red football team for two years. He was the youngest person in Nebraska at the time to pass the exam for his CPA certificate. He formed the firm of Irwin-Imig Co. in Omaha which later merged with Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, making this one of the most successful accounting firms in the country.
To list the many community organizations to which Jakie gave his talents would be a momentous undertaking. Here are a few. He was a strong worker for the Boy Scouts. One of his pet projects was the Nebraska Methodist Hospital, and he served as a member of the board of trustees for four years, during which time he helped with the planning and building of its new facility. He was a member of the Tangier Shrine Temple, serving as jester and raising money for the Shrine Children's Hospitals.
After he retired in 1973, Jakie moved to Lake San Marcos, Calif., where he continued to be active in all community affairs. Here he developed his many talents, painting landscapes, doing shop work, becoming an expert with a computer, writing and you name it. He was a better than average golfer, too.
His passing may be the end of an era— the Jacob Imig, Sr., Era— but since he leaves four sons, all over six feet tall, this can certainly be called the beginning of another era. We are sure the Jakie Imig boys— John, Bill, Tom and Dick, all now in responsible positions as a commodity broker, an attorney, a medical researcher and a certified public accountant— will take good care of the Imig name.
With nine grandchildren, how could they fail to establish themselves as the Golden Era of Jakie Imig? Or perhaps the Jakie Imig Dynasty?
Jakie may have left us, but those of us who knew him and followed his steps up the ladder of success will never forget him as a friend, a father, a grandfather and a husband. He was the greatest. We can only say, Jakie, since you must leave us, we are glad to have had you with us for the time allotted. Till we meet again, may God bless you.
